A Walking Nerve Ending

A walking nerve ending walks into a bar
But it's too nervous to order a beer
The man beside it says I see a resemblance
To a nerve ending I once knew
You better pray to God it's not you

I see the possibility here for an awful lot of pain
For a walking nerve ending it will always remain

A walking nerve ending takes a walk in the park
But can't relax until it gets dark
And when it gets dark it bumps into things
The dead and the living too
It's not a very relaxing thing to do

There's nothing technically to be afraid of
The devil below and God above

The air is unseasonably wet and warm
A hurricane or a tropical storm
Is poised at the edge of town
Even the cops are hunkered down

A walking never ending walks into a bar
Attention glued to the way things are
Encounters another vibrating nearby
They fill up a booth with tension
As if it's their own invention

For a walking never ending in a high strung town
What will it take to calm down

I see the possibility here
Of a moment in the clear
Is that too much to ask today
A happy little ending in its way

A walking never ending walks into a bar
Attention glued to the way things are
